We know the grass grows greener over the septic tank, but how did we arrive at the septic tank? Wanting to “eliminate” the need to go outside to dispose of waste, Frenchman Jean-Louis Mouras buried a concrete tank outside his home in 1860, running clay pipes from the house. Mouras patented the tank in 1881, just two years before its use in the states.
